i am still waiting for a story of my own

lightshadowshadowlight

My perception of things, of myself is completely warped by my past.
Perception, noun, someone's ability to notice and understand things that are not obvious to other people.

Sea Square

There's always something scary about the void, black holes and never-ending or escaping...but a space within a void, a window leading to somewhere else, behind the void is ultimately hopeful and intriguing. Let's see where it goes. Maybe nowhere, maybe everywhere or maybe just everywhere inbetween.

all i know is the present for now

Books

In Process

Drawing in process, was nearly finished and my pen ran out, in terms of a process piece its a huge deal. Should I carry on with another pen, hence different colour and different attitude differenttime. or just leave it be...tobecontinued...

Wildflowers

Picked these flowers up from near the prison and in the garden. Life is everywhere.
Your body is only a vessel for your mind and only you have the keys to free your mind, its my journey, it's my life, it's my mind.

Norway

Finished a map of Norway a while ago. Not sure where my maps are taking me anymore, they're at a stand still right now, think they might be over. It's over. For now at least. I want to create a calmness, a mindfulness, a sense that each second counts and exists and is worth something and recorded whether it be through a big speech, a whisper, a wink, a tear or a simple mark of a pen.

Blue Roses

Went to Southampton for the weekend to see The Cardinals or The Cardinals feat. Ryan Adams or Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. I love his spontaneity, his songs are never finished, open-ending always open to re-interpretation.
Southampton was really cool, great parks, you can walk round the old city walls, and get a ferry over to the Isle of Wight. It's amazing how much control our own minds have, or we have over our own minds? Mind over matter always. If you're in a good place mentally any place can seem amazing, but just as equally if you're in a bad place any place can seem suffocating or like hell.
Stop. Slow down.
Keep calm and carry on, with life, art, this blog, trying to communicate.
Life is all but a series of moments, be mindful in every moment.

Paper

Have started new paper work; paper cups which are crushed paper forced into a plastic cup and forced out again into a paper cup shape, and a stack of hole punched holes.

Paper is an important part of my practice, whether I use it for drawing on, sculptures, installation or painting. I constantly am intrigued by its transformational characteristics.
The cycle, process, system of transforming paper through ripping, hole punching, scrunching, folding, tearing, pricking, cutting, rubbing away...of this accessibly found material is what interests me.

With all the information that is available today I feel there is an information overload and to be able to change this information into something quieter and physically present to show the other side of paper which is unseen and just taken for granted. A side of quiet thought, cosmic doubt, insecurities, transformation, courage, confidence and difference through myself onto paper that has come into my life.

the the the

Circle filled with the text 'the' over and over again. A single word on its own, has no context, meaning, thought, nothing for it to exist, interact with. Looking at it over and over, it becomes obsolete and looks incorrectly spelt, even though its a word that you have propably used many times a day every day of your life.

Changing simple things through simple processes.

Language and text describes something on the page, something thought through, something concrete, rational. Speech, body language, physicality, dreams and thoughts are more difficult to record, more spontaneous drifting through the unconscious to the deliberate. The ephemeral is much more in tune with the pattern of life than the present human condition to preserve and worry about everything changing.

Change is the only constant.

Changing for someone else?

- drawing entered into Newton open drawing comp

Sent off stuff for Re:worked exhibition, Newton open drawing and NOISE festival. Going to send stuff for a text festival, EaST International and Magpie.

There's always a thing when you try and adapt and contort your practice to conform into an exhibition or competition. How far are you changing it away from where you want to go, or is it just progression into a new area that can challenge you into new areas and bring about new work that would never have come about otherwise.

Quite intreseted in doing some text work, my work is a lot about information and over-information and the destruction of information into something simpler and minimal. Its funny how psycological and the organisation of your conscious and unconscious comes out in your art and sometimes you only recognise this months or even years after you've finished the work.

Paper Block, Drawings and Archive

Recently finished a new sculpture titled 'paper block'-- a block made out of crushed paper. I like the deconstructing materials to reconstruct them into something new. Using my old dissertation notes and articles was a freeing process and one of letting go of my education and hope for the future. Getting rid of or transforming negative over-information & conotations into the simple positivity of a block was liberating.

New map drawings of the sea coloured in around Skye, A circle of black land in between the roads and red land in between roads where it was forest and black land in between roads leaving a forest green area blank and a sea edge.

Also trying to deal with my archive of photos and work, not sure how best to collate it all, wether to use a photo album, sketchbook, website, digital program?? Remember reading about Louise Bourgeois having a full time archive assistant, thats a lot of work after 80 odd years of making.
