Paper

Have started new paper work; paper cups which are crushed paper forced into a plastic cup and forced out again into a paper cup shape, and a stack of hole punched holes.

Paper is an important part of my practice, whether I use it for drawing on, sculptures, installation or painting. I constantly am intrigued by its transformational characteristics.
The cycle, process, system of transforming paper through ripping, hole punching, scrunching, folding, tearing, pricking, cutting, rubbing away...of this accessibly found material is what interests me.

With all the information that is available today I feel there is an information overload and to be able to change this information into something quieter and physically present to show the other side of paper which is unseen and just taken for granted. A side of quiet thought, cosmic doubt, insecurities, transformation, courage, confidence and difference through myself onto paper that has come into my life.

the the the

Circle filled with the text 'the' over and over again. A single word on its own, has no context, meaning, thought, nothing for it to exist, interact with. Looking at it over and over, it becomes obsolete and looks incorrectly spelt, even though its a word that you have propably used many times a day every day of your life.

Changing simple things through simple processes.

Language and text describes something on the page, something thought through, something concrete, rational. Speech, body language, physicality, dreams and thoughts are more difficult to record, more spontaneous drifting through the unconscious to the deliberate. The ephemeral is much more in tune with the pattern of life than the present human condition to preserve and worry about everything changing.

Change is the only constant.
