VOTES FOR WOMEN Print

https://www.etsy.com/listing/253082618/votes-for-women-linocut-print?ref=shop_home_active_1

After seeing the Suffragette film last week, I was inspired to create an illustration which then turned into a linocut print in homage to the amazing women who fought & campaigned for so long for women's right to vote in Great Britain which wasn't achieved for all women (over the age of 21) until 1928.

My print includes chains for when they chained themselves to railings in protest, bombs/matches for when they set off postbox bombs & bombed a ministers house in protest, sashes and a miniature of their hero and 'leader' Emmeline Pankhurst along with flowers and medals which they received after their stint in prison and on hunger strike and a dove for the freedom and peace they were out to acheive for all women and the fight for equality which still continues to this day.

It is now available to buy in my etsy shop

Vote Libraries

 http://creativeaction.network/collections/vote-libraries/products/education-and-storytime-tote-bag-by-louise-norman

I created a design for Every Library & Creative Action Network's latest campaign 'Vote Libraries'. My design details education and storytime and how libraries can help with children's literacy.
http://creativeaction.network/collections/vote-libraries/products/education-and-storytime-tote-bag-by-louise-norman

I went to my local library yesterday and although it's tiny I managed to find a few graphic novels, a cookbook & a book on mindfulness. So much knowledge, wisdom & enjoyment are in the pages of books. So make sure you use your library they're so important for us now & the future generation.

Sport Posters for Transcend

A while ago I created a poster on OJ's bronco chase for Creative Action Network & Bleacher Report's new project "Transcend: Moments in Sport that Changed the Game". You can get a print of it on Creative Action Network

I also created a poster of the Battle of the Sexes match as I'm a big tennis fan & Billie Jean King is a legend! You can also get a print of it here on Creative Action Network. I love this time of year with the end of the clay & grass court season, so much great tennis to enjoy; first the French Open then Queens, Eastbourne & Wimbledon yay!

Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics starts on Friday in Sochi, Russia with 15 disciplines from curling to bobsleigh, speed skating to snowboarding. I've had a love-hate relationship with skiing from loving the rush and amazing mountains to nosebleeds and unable to get up situations! But there's so much wonder and amazement, courage and bravery of the athletes who just throw themselves down mountains, ice slides, round ski cross tracks and icerinks. I love the outfits, often skintight and filled with wacky patterns so here's a poster I've created detailing all the fun and sports of the winter olympics. Get prints, t-shirts, bags etc... from my Society6 shop and t-shirts & stickers from my Redbubble shop!

And here's a few details of the patterns, colours and textures. . .

and a little gif animation!

I'm most looking forward to ski and snowboard cross, skeleton, freestyle, curling, short track and downhill. What about you?

新年快樂 Happy New Year 2014!

2014 has been already going for a month, but it's only just new year's day in China! (as they follow a Lunar calendar). It's the year of the horse this year which means (in a nutshell) that it will be full of prosperity, good health and good luck!

Sundance Film Festival 2014

The Sundance Film Festival starts today and I'd love to go, so while I can't quite get to Sundance this year, here's a little poster I created with all the films on it! There looks to be so many amazing stories being told. If I could get to Utah I'd go see:

See America

http://seeamericaproject.com/collections/see-idaho/products/inferno-cone-trail-in-craters-of-the-moon-national-monument-by-louise-norman

I did a little poster for Creative Action Network's next project, taking inspiration and reimaging the iconic 'See America' posters from 75 years ago. Mine (above) is of the Inferno Cone in the 'Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve' in Idaho. Who knew you could go to the craters of the moon while never leaving earth? Check out the other Idaho posters here and all of the states here. Below are a few of my favourites, but why not contribute your own?

The Fierce Urgency of NOW!

I love a good quote and I recently saw this 'online exhibition' on 'Activism in the U.S' on the Digital Public Library of America and was inspired by Martin Luther King's speeches {see the speech videos} and this statement 'The Fierce Urgency of NOW' really struck a chord it's really powerful in so many different ways, for acting for what's right in big issues as well as everyday ones like focusing on your work and living in the moment. The NOW is the only time we truly live in, the only time when things can happen, so why not let it be this now, this time right here, right NOW!

So I made it into a poster, and it's available now on Society6. It's also available on other products too, I think it works great on a phone case, if only I had a smartphone. . .

The Fierce Urgency of Now iPhone & iPod Case

I'm going to be developing a series of them, perhaps using embroidery too! So stay tuned . . .

What quotes are inspiring you lately?
{see my pinterest quotes board for loads of mine}

What's on my walls?

I've just got this amazing print of the 26 queens of England by Katja Spitzer from Nobrow. It was made to promote her book 'Quodlibet' which is about all things 'Q'. So I thought I'd show you what else is on my walls...

An old garden photo from a magazine and some vintage cigarette cards of space images...

 Medium_100_2331
Inspiration from my pinterest boards and idea sketches...

Medium_cropped_100_2332 Medium_cropped_100_2333
Unfinished painting's still on the go, based on Luis Barragan's interiors and exteriors...

New York Subway and Road Maps bought from the New York Public Library...

Print of my 'To Kill a Mockingbird' Illustration which is a T-shirt design and an old drawing of the amazing windows in the Finnish musuem 'Arktikum' in Rovaniemi done while visiting in 2000...

Medium_100_2342
and another Inspiration wall full of artist postcards, magazine pictures and drawings.

What's on your walls? I must start collecting some more prints and paintings to start a collection! Any suggestions?
