Book Stack Tote Bags

    

I love books and using canvas bags to keep all my shopping in so why not combine the two? I've just made these hand painted and embroidered book stack tote bags with some of my favourite authors and books, check them out. . .

there's - Haruki Murakami with 6 of his amazingly weird and wonderful other worldly novels {1Q84, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, After Dark, Kafka on the Shore, A Wild Sheep Chase and Norwegian Wood}

 

and Jane Austen with her beautiful classic novels {Emma, Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park}

Summer on Skye: Outer Hebrides - Lewis {Part 2 - Town & Chessmen}

A few weeks ago I went to the Outer Hebrides, we visited Harris & Lewis {see Lewis part 1 of the trip and Harris}. Stornoway is the largest town in the Outer Isles, this is what we saw. . .

  

 colourful, characterful buildings. . .

   

a herring fisherwoman. . .

the Ferry in port from Ullapool. . .

 

Grey pastel sky and silhouettes. . .

Gaelic signposts. . .

  

and the oldest pub in town!

From Stornoway we travelled across Lewis to Uig Bay the place where the famous Lewis Chessmen were discovered in the 19th Century.

  

In tribute to the chessmen which were found in a sandbank at Uig in 1831 there is a huge wooden King carving near the beach. . .

  

 with an amazing beard. . .

      

and a Berserker {rook} and a Knight. . .

 

huge beaches with the blue sea in the distance. . . 

People as dots on the sand. . . 

  

 Footprints and grass into sand. . . 

 I loved how the tufts of plants and grass grow up through the sand taking over. . .

 No sea in sight. . .

  

and lush green fields and mountains in the distance.

London for Show us Your Type

 

Show us your type is a great online project which showcases typography and cities, I've contributed to a couple of cities; my Berlin poster which made the exhibition in Barcelona in 2010, my Melbourne and Kingston posters. The most recent city is London and my poster, detailing 6 famous Londoners was chosen to be in the exhibition which is on at Central St Martins in the Atrium Windows from the 20th August - 12th September.

The next city in the project is Tokyo, it's a bit different this time as instead of posters they want animated gifs! the deadline is 23 November 2013, find out more on how to contribute here.

Wooden Tribal Brooches

I have a new collection of wooden brooches in my etsy shop featuring hand painted tribal patterns. They're great to jazz up an outfit or bag. A wearable painting; you can take a piece of art with you wherever you go!

Feature Friday: Rob Ryan Zines

   

 

 

I've been a fan of Rob Ryan's papercut's for a while know and while they're great to look at online, they're inaccessible for most people to own and enjoy. But these zines that have just come out, work really well, the transient nature of paper, being screenprinted onto sugar paper in two colours, it's a perfect fit and they look amazing!
